CALL FOR LIGHT ARTISTS - October 3, 2006

As part of its ArtsUnion initiative, the Somerville Arts Council seeks two site-specific outdoor lighting displays to be exhibited during the winter months of early 2007 in Union Square, Somerville.

We are very open to ideas for light installations and are particularly
interested in work that is innovative and bold—art that will draw the
attention of people passing through Union Square. Artists/designers
may choose to work alone or collaboratively. We imagine that
interdisciplinary artists may be especially appropriate for this
project. Some artists may propose to work with renewable energy L.E.D.
lights or video projections.

It is our intention to select two proposals, and our budget for each light display is $6,250.

CROSSING BOUNDARIES EXHIBITION - September 17, 2006

Boundaries are often created to set limits. Although they may protect us, boundaries may also prevent us from revealing fantastic new ideas and places that are unfamiliar but well worth discovering. In our fall exhibition, "CROSSING BOUNDARIES," Pigmentia Studio & Gallery will explore works by eight artists who demonstrate this theme of challenging creative inhibitions. There will be an open-to-the-public reception with the artists on Sunday, September 17, from 1 – 5 p.m.

Somerville artist Wade Aaron's brilliant paintings are composed of curvaceous gaps cut into canvas and bridged by crisscrossed threads. Medford artists Adele Travisano and Tim Barner cross stylistic boundaries as they blend their individually distinctive methods in their collaborative acrylic paintings created in Travisano's garden. Gallery owner and photographer Lisa Tang Liu crosses media boundaries to produce an oil painting under Travisano's tutelage and more...

"Crossing Boundaries" can be viewed at Pigmentia Studio & Gallery at 13 Forest Street, right in the heart of Medford Square, from September 15 through October 14. Gallery hours during the exhibition are Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 11-6 and Saturday 1-5. Gallery is closed Thursday and Sunday. For more information, please call 781-396-0092, visit us on the web at http://www.pigmentiagallery.com, or email marc@pigmentia.com.

Somerville Theatre Company, Alarm Clock Theatre Co presents "Bombs and Manifestos"

August 26th, 2006 2pm and 7pm Cambridge Family YMCA (Central Square, Cambridge)
TICKETS: $10 at the door

"Bombs and Manifestos" a monologue written by Somerville playwright Brian Polak, featuring Steven Johnson as "BB" and Directed by Daniel Bourque:
BB is a lonely street musician lamenting his life and relating to the life and manifesto of Ted Kascinski, The Unabomber. Is BB just rambling nonsense into his microphone, or is there more to what he has to say?

About the event:
Whistler in the Dark Theatre brings five imaginative Boston and Somerville theatre
companies together on a single stage. A rambling street musician has an incendiary agenda; a Maiden battles the Devil; a routine doctor's visit turns into anything but; a young woman swims herself to thinness; a fragmented woman struggles for wholeness; a disillusioned outcast rants about war and its aftermath, while diners seek dignity,
service and a Reuben.

CALL TO PHOTOGRAPHERS - August 31, 2006

I am interested in sharing a darkroom space that is either already in place or needs to be implemented. I have the necessary equipment to start one. Willing to spend around $150/mo. Prefer location in Somerville or on Red Line.

I am not at the point yet where I have a website to share. But I do have a portfolio, if that is important to you. By day, I am a school teacher, after 3:30 an aspiring photograher. For years I have taken classes at the local schools whenever I had time. Will be teaching only part time this year and so am balancing things out with more photo. Also, just moved to Somerville.

Please email if interested or just have some ideas.
