SOMERVILLE ART EXHIBITION - April 6, 2008

Dear Friends and Supporters...
Come celebrate with me! Spring is in the air and I just finished a
beautiful series of works on paper that I'd love to share with you.

Last summer I began a series of drawings using colored pencil as my
medium. For inspiration I turned to old unfinished drawings. I tore
them into strips then wove the strips into colorful paper tapestries.
Next I reworked their surfaces with colored pencils using layering and
my eraser to achieve different effects. The results can be viewed at
http://www.janesherrill.com/coloredpencil.html.

So come say hello, have a bite to eat and view my new work--I truly
want to see you and catch up! And for anyone who would like to purchase
a drawing at this event, I am offering a 10% discount.

Here are the particulars...

Date: Sunday, April 6, 2008
Time: 4-6pm
Place: 20 Vernon Street, 6-West, Somerville MA For directions:
http://www.vernonstreet.com/directions.html. Please note, my building
is #20, the second entrance into the factory from the corner of Vernon
& Central Streets.

Here's to creativity and renewal!

SOMERVILLE CALL FOR PERFORMANCE PROPOSALS - April 11, 2008

Looking for outdoor space to host a community event? The Somerville Community Growing Center is part of the city's public open space. It is a beautiful outdoor garden, education, arts and performance space near Union Square in Somerville.

The Friends of the Community Growing Center are currently putting together the Center’s 2008 calendar of events, and we invite you to contact us with ideas and dates for events. All events are open to the public and the space is wheelchair accessible. You cannot charge admission (but use of the space is free!)

For more information or to propose an event, please contact Lisa Brukilacchio at info@thegrowingcenter.org or 617-666-2969. March 18th - April 29th
Opening: Friday, March 28th 5-7pm

"The familiar lines and forms of salt marsh islands and tidal estuaries are part of the Great Marsh landscape that I have lived with for over thirty years, watching its many moods and seeking it out through changing tides, light and seasons. This primeval landscape holds endless appeal, with its simplicity of line and form, strong presence of natural forces, and complex interplay of elements. The images in this collection are from a landscape covering several thousand acres of tidal creeks, estuaries, salt marsh islands, and sand dunes that form Castle Neck and the surrounding area in Ipswich, MA."

He leaves behind a vast archive of the Civil Rights Movement. In addition, Withers documented the powerful music scene on Beale Street, the Negro Baseball League and black social life in Memphis.

SOMERVILLE OPEN STUDIOS MUSIC FESTIVAL - May 3-4, 2008

ARTSomerville and The Nave Gallery invite performing artists to join us for 3 days of music to coincide with Somerville Open Studios May 3 and 4, 1 to 6 pm.

This free concert stimulates a lot of energy and good will at what is predominately a visual arts event. All performers will be publicized on widely distributed postcards and press releases. Please consider joining us this year for this huge event. Over 300 artists participate!

This is the 3rd year we will be hosting music in the Clarendon Hill Church sanctuary, while a dozen artists show their work in the community room and an exhibition will be on display in the gallery. It promises to bring in a steady stream of visitors, making The Nave Gallery a lively place to be on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

SOS Music Festival performers will each get a one hour time slot between 1 - 6 pm on May 3rd or 4th.

This year, Somerville Open Studio coincides with Boston Jazz Week. Since we also participate in Boston Jazz Week, we are especially interested in hosting jazz acts that would like to play evening shows on May 2nd and 3rd.

Calendar:
April 10: Deadline to confirm performance for print listings
May 2, 5-8pm: Exhibit and Opening Reception: 'Turn On A Dime' at The Nave Gallery
May 2, 8 - 10:30pm: Boston Jazz Week - night 1
May 3, 1-6pm: Somerville Open Studios Music Festival - day 1
May 3, 8 - 10:30pm: Boston Jazz Week - night 2
May 3, 1-6pm: Somerville Open Studios Music Festival - day 2

Please get back to us and let us know if you can join us - which day and time slot would work best, and please send your photos, bios, artwork and writeups with your request for a time slot.

FIRST FRIDAY OPEN STUDIOS - March 7, 2008

Hello-

I would like to invite you to First Friday Open Studios this Friday, Mar. 7, from 6-9 pm., at 450 Harrison Ave., Studio 227, Boston, MA. And to all of you who stopped by for First Friday in February, many thanks; I always enjoy visiting with you!

(Please scroll down to learn about my PhotoShop training services and items for sale)

This month, in addition to new prints from my personal collection, I will continue to feature newly restored photographs of early 20th century China from the archive of my Grandfather, William Leete. Finally, I will have new examples of client work, both photography and Fine-Art reproductions.

Visit to a Former Student, near Luoyang: Photo William Leete, 1937; Restoration and Print ©2008 William Morse

As always on First Fridays, the building's 15 galleries and more than 50 artists' studios will be open. This Friday, if you want to avoid the early evening crush in the galleries, come upstairs to the studios first, and visit the galleries on your way out. You may also want to finish the evening with a dinner reservation at one of the great restaurants in the area (and I can help with recommendations).

There is off street parking at 500 Harrison Avenue as well as on street parking. The MBTA Silver Line stop is East Berkeley, just one block away.

See you this Friday!
