[somartscouncil] FW: Hello - Goodby? - [somartscouncil]
What's happening this month Cambridge Art Association? - [somartscouncil]
Find out in our September Newsletter! September 2018 Exhibits & Programs Building a vibrant community through visual art, since 1944 Greetings! September at the Cambridge Art Association always feels like back to school for me, with members returning from summer recharged and ready for the year ahead! This month ushers in our 74th Season with our annual Mary Schein Fall Salon. If you have not pre-registered - not to worry! Please come in and drop-off your artwork on Tuesday, September 4, from 10am-5pm, at our Kathryn Schultz Gallery. And, if you've yet to enter RED, please note that the early bird deadline is September 1 at 11:59pm. After that, the entry fee increases by $10. In the back to school spirit, we hope to encourage you to get more involved at CAA, if you are not already. If you have yet to sign up for our Art Rental Program, now is the time! Our Art Rental Program Manager, Maria Duffy, continues to bring on new clients and is looking to increase the number of artists participating in the program. You can click here to learn more today! In addition to all of our September programs, listed below, we have a full schedule for October and November as well, including a new workshop with Sybylla Smith, Concept Aware. You can find our complete workshop listing on our Workshops page. We've also made updates to our exhibition guidelines, including a change in the commission percentages on artwork sold through our galleries and satellite venues (please note, these rates do not apply to the Art Rental Program). The good news - this works in your favor! CAA is reducing our commission, in an effort to encourage sales in our spaces. Finally, at the end of the month, we will host an artist showcase exhibit, as part of Cambridge Arts Open Studios Weekend. We have lots in store for CAA's 74th year! Since 2013, the Somerville Toy Camera Festiv al (STCF) has celebrated the quirky and creative results that can happen when photographers are compelled to loosen their controls, submit to the light, and embrace the accidental. Each year since, the Festival jurors have selected work from a wide range of toy camera photographers, both US and international, who will exhibit their work in simultaneous gallery shows throughout Somerville. STCF also features related programming, including artist talks, panel discussions, workshops, social events and a darkroom day.
The sixth annual STCF will run from September 6-October 13, with work displayed at Brickbottom Gallery, Nave Gallery, and Washington Street Art Gallery, making it among the largest toy camera festivals in the world. Showcasing the lo-fi art work of local, national and international photographers, STCF highlights the talents and creativity of artists who use low tech tools to create high art images.
This year’s STCF has been juried by fine art photographer Jennifer Shaw. The exhibit “Space In Between,” held at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, will specifically showcase Shaw’s work. 220;Space In Between” will coincide with the Festival’s time-frame, running from September 11-October 5. The Photographic Resource Center in Cambridge will also be taking part in highlighting STCF, hosting several related events during the Festival’s run.
For up to date information on STCF, visit www.somervilletoycamera.org. The list of artists selected for this year’s Festival can be found at www.somervilletoycamera.org/
