September at the Cambridge Art Association always feels like back to school for me, with members returning from summer recharged and ready for the year ahead! This month ushers in our 74th Season with our annual Mary Schein Fall Salon. If you have not pre-registered - not to worry! Please come in and drop-off your artwork on Tuesday, September 4, from 10am-5pm, at our Kathryn Schultz Gallery. And, if you've yet to enter RED, please note that the early bird deadline is September 1 at 11:59pm. After that, the entry fee increases by $10. In the back to school spirit, we hope to encourage you to get more involved at CAA, if you are not already. If you have yet to sign up for our Art Rental Program, now is the time! Our Art Rental Program Manager, Maria Duffy, continues to bring on new clients and is looking to increase the number of artists participating in the program. You can click here to learn more today! In addition to all of our September programs, listed below, we have a full schedule for October and November as well, including a new workshop with Sybylla Smith, Concept Aware. We've also made updates to our exhibition guidelines, including a change in the commission percentages on artwork sold through our galleries and satellite venues (please note, these rates do not apply to the Art Rental Program). The good news - this works in your favor! CAA is reducing our commission, in an effort to encourage sales in our spaces. Finally, at the end of the month, we will host an artist showcase exhibit, as part of Cambridge Arts Open Studios Weekend. We have lots in store for CAA's 74th year!   $175  share artist (non live in) studio space Available September 15 (maybe sooner), I am a sculptor working in wood and my full time job leaves me few hours to use the space except for Wednesdays and another day plus some mornings. 8 ft X 11.5 (92 Sq ft ) within a larger space, 360 sq ft located in Central Street Studios. The space has good light and participates in SOS.   Hello All! I’m writing to let you know that we are in the middle of a street art mural project in Somerville and THIS SUNDAY there’s an opportunity to meet all three artists! Soaring Through The Matrix: Magnus Johnstone Paintings August 11-19, 2018

Nave Gallery, Teele Square 155 Powder House Blvd Somerville, MA 02144 August 11-19, 2018 Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00 pm-5:00 pm Learn more » Facebook » Join us in celebrating the life and work of the late Magnus Johnstone, a unique visual artist and music guru -- known for influential radio shows on WMBR and WZBC, including "Alien's Corner," "Lecco's Lemma," "Dub Hop" and "Mecca" -- whose fantastical and psychedelic artwork was influenced by sources as diverse as Renaissance art, German expressionism, surrealist painting, writers like H. P. Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick and Harlan Ellison, and the graphic and comic art of the 1960s.  Johnstone showed his work in the '70s and '80s at Gallery East, Stone Soup and Punkt/Data, but slowed his public showings in the 1990s and 2000s as he battled several illnesses and relocated to Bucksport, ME. When he passed away in 2013, Magnus left behind 100 large canvases (50" x 70"), as well as dozens of medium-sized and smaller pieces. Most of his still-available medium and smaller works are part of "Soaring Through The Matrix," which features four dozen items.  All proceeds will go to the Johnstone family, to help store, maintain and market his work.
