Join us in celebrating the life and work of the late Magnus Johnstone, a unique visual artist and music guru -- known for influential radio shows on WMBR and WZBC, including "Alien's Corner," "Lecco's Lemma," "Dub Hop" and "Mecca" -- whose fantastical and psychedelic artwork was influenced by sources as diverse as Renaissance art, German expressionism, surrealist painting, writers like H. P. Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick and Harlan Ellison, and the graphic and comic art of the 1960s.
Johnstone showed his work in the '70s and '80s at Gallery East, Stone Soup and Punkt/Data, but slowed his public showings in the 1990s and 2000s as he battled several illnesses and relocated to Bucksport, ME. When he passed away in 2013, Magnus left behind 100 large canvases (50" x 70"), as well as dozens of medium-sized and smaller pieces. Most of his still-available medium and smaller works are part of "Soaring Through The Matrix," which features four dozen items.
All proceeds will go to the Johnstone family, to help store, maintain and market his work.
