Workshops, Talks, and 2019 Portfolio Review ‌ ‌ ‌ Greetings! This Winter, in addition to an amazing line-up of exhibits, we are proud to present a diverse selection of programs for artists at all points in their careers Programs scheduled for this Winter include our ongoing drop-in Sunday Open Studio; a curatorial talk with our January 2019 invited curator Patricia Miranda; and our third season of art-music collaborations with the New Gallery Concert Series. New programs include two chances to try out letterpress; a business planning boot camp for artists; and a workshops targeted at developing your curatorial vision. Learn more and REGISTER Artists and Curators: A Curatorial Workshop, with Laura Knott Tuesday, February 12, 2-4:30pmKathryn Schultz Gallery $25 M / $40 NM All levels   This workshop will examine some recent curatorial strategies and practices, as well as recent (and welcome) changes to the field. Context will include past groundbreaking exhibitions, as well as important contemporary interventions in curatorial thinking and making. Minds-on learning will include the mechanisms of making exhibitions: how works are selected, what audiences are addressed, how research and writing convey curatorial views, and the roles of the curator in relationship with artists. Learn more and register REGISTER How to Photograph Your Artwork, with Erik Gehring Wednesday, February 13, 6-9pmKathryn Schultz Gallery $40 M / $50 NM All levels Artists need high-quality digital images for promotional purposes, as well as for submission to exhibits and other opportunities to display your artwork. This hands-on workshop is designed to teach artists how to create these images, using the tools they have at hand, whether they be professional digital cameras, point-and-shoots, or even their smartphone camera. Learn more and REGISTER Embrace the Sketchbook Workshop, with Martha Wakefield Thursday, February 14, 10am-1pmKathryn Schultz Gallery $75 M / $90 NM All levels The sketchbook is a wonderful tool in any studio practice to improve creativity, explore ideas, stay inspired and motivated. It becomes visual diary committing to paper those ideas rattling in the right brain. We will review some master artists’ sketchbooks (most pretty messy), sketchbook options and experiment with a variety of materials from a simple pencil to markers, paint and collage. Through exercises students can engage in the process of playing as it is the beginning stage of creativity allowing more risk taking since a “finished” piece is not the goal here. At the end of the workshop artist may find some gems to explore further in their art practice. But now you need to connect with new audiences and opportunities. How can you make that happen?   In this session, you will learn how to use Instagram to showcase your artwork and connect with collectors, curators, and new opportunities. You'll learn how use the platform as an integral part of your digital marketing strategy. We'll cover specific strategies for visual artists - including who to follow, how to increase engagement, hashtags, and the increasing importance of insta stories. You will leave with a strategy planning document, and the tools to expand your audience.
