Sunday, April 2, 2017 @ 4pm      **originally scheduled on March 19**
Arts at the Armory Cafe 191 Highland Ave. Somerville

Solos de Ave (Bird Solos) explores and reconstructs the music of Brazilian composers Moacir Santos, Guinga, Cartola, and Tom Jobim with vocalist Sofia Krigersaxophonist Gustavo D'Amico, and pianist Chase Morrin. The new arrangements and improvistional touches will add their own personal imprint on some of the older music they grew up with. They will also perform some original compositions.

Sofia Kriger, a native of Vitoria, the capital city of Espírito Santo state in southeast Brazil. is currently enrolled in New England Conservatory's Jazz program. She grew up surrounded by the vibrant sounds of Brazilian music and other genres. One of her goals as a musician is to experiment and improvise with sounds and feelings, approaching it with sincerity and passion. She currently is a member and co-leader of INĀ, a group that performs the Yoruban music of Brazil and Cuba.

The following year he was a member of the 2015-2016 Jazz Honors Ensemble coached by Dominique Eade.

Chase Morrin, a native of San Diego, is a pianist, composer and arranger who is well versed in classical and jazz idioms. He graduated from the New England Conservatory in 2016 with a Masters in Jazz Composition. Chase recently performed for Journeys in Sound as a member of Gapi, his colloaboration with Korean gayageum player Do Yeon Kim. He is a true music adventurer.

Also on the program is the very eclectic classically trained violinist Elinor Speirs, who will bring her Brazilian Violin Collective. Elinor has played the Journeys in Sound series a number of times and always astounds people with her versatility with numerous musical styles and her beautiful tone. Always open to various musics of the world, Elinor recently played a recital at NEC that focused on Brazilian music, something she dearly loves.
