John Funkhouser Quartet this Saturday at Third Life Studio
John Funkhouser Quartet
Saturday 3/11, 8pm
Third Life Studio, 33 Union Square
I'm excited to welcome pianist John Funkhouser back to the Mandorla Music Series, along with longtime musical compadres Greg Loughman on bass, Phil Sargent on guitar and Mike Connors on drums.
John says that a new record is in the planning stages, including compositions that reflect what critic Jon Garelick has called his "deep-pocket versatility and hungry ears." Some new works further explore his long interest in Indian classical music, and others draw upon his travels last year in South Africa. He describes one recent composition as "South Africa meets New Orleans meets general celebration." Intriguing, no?
Watch & listen:
House of The Rising Sun / The Deep / Indigo Montoya's Great Escape
