Special Invitation to 10th Annual Artists Under the Dome event on Nov 2nd
Special Invitation to attend the 10th Annual Artists Under the Dome event at the State House on Wednesday, Nov 2nd. We are the only state in the country to have such an event. I hope you can come and please invite others in your networks to this wonderful event. It is free and open to the public.
Here are more details about the event:
For the 10th time, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts invites Massachusetts artists working in all disciplines (visual arts, literary, performing, crafts, new media, etc.) to the State House on Wednesday, November 2nd, from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the State House's Great Hall, to thank them for all they contribute to our state's economy and quality of life. Massachusetts is the only state in the country to hold such an event. Although not required, those attending are encouraged to register for this free event.

The 2016 event is brought to you by State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development, the Massachusetts Artists Leaders Coalition, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, and the State House's Cultural Caucus. With special thanks to the Epicenter Community.
The morning speaking program will feature remarks by State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg, Representative Cory Atkins- House Chair of the Joint Committee of Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development (TACD), Representative Smitty Pignatelli- House Vice Chair of TACD & Co-Chair of the Cultural Caucus, Representative Chris Walsh and with more speakers slated to be announced.
This year, for the first time, MALC will be inaugurating its "Champion of Artists Awards". This will be an annual award given at every Artists Under the Dome event. The two awardees for 2016 are: Senator Daniel Wolf (Senate President Rosenberg will be accepting the award on his behalf) and State Representative Gloria Fox. MALC is thanking both of these legislators for their direct work with MALC and for their dedicated service to supporting the artist community. Both Senator Wolf and Representative Fox are not running for re-election and their spirit and dedication to supporting the Commonwealth's artists of all disciplines will be missed at the State House.
The Massachusetts State Treasury, the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development, the Massachusetts Artists Leaders Coalition, the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council are the original founders of this event and have been working together since the first Artists Under the Dome Event was held on November 8th in 2007 at the State House. Also this year, MALC will unveil their "Labor Policy" recommendations for the Commonwealth in an afternoon discussion panel moderated by MALC co-founder Kathleen Bitetti and Epicenter Community founder Malia Lazu. These policy recommendations expand on the Coalition's work on its 2014 Governor's Challenge paper and the principles MALC has set forth in its Fair Trade section of the MALC blog.
