Bata Boston and Le Bon Truc - Music Traditions of Cuba, Brazil, & France

Bata Boston plays, interprets, and reinterprets music of the African-Diaspora specifically through the traditional musics of Cuba and Brazil. Through the use of just singers and drummers they engage their audience with vocal harmonies, dancing, and drumming. The group was put together this year by percussionist Julian Loida who co-leads the ensemble with vocalist Sophia Kriger who is from Brazil. Bata Boston debuted with a performance at the Lily Pad this past May and later performed in June as part of Make Music Boston in front of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Le Bon Truc (the Good Stuff), based in Maine, play the traditional music of Brittany, Alsace, and Central France. The members are Gary Chapin (accordion), Barbara Truex (strings & percussion) & Steve Gruverman (clarinet). Between them they have decades of experience playing world and folk music, with a particular passion for the music of rural France and Brittany. After playing together in the French dance band, Nouveau Chapeau, they realized that as a trio of accordion, reeds, and dulcimer, they had something unique and special to offer. Between their sound, their energy, and their repertoire, they guarantee to make any room happy.
