Summer Media Classes at SCATV

Summer is here and so are Somerville Community Access Television's next batch of media production classes. There are some great classes to sign up for! If you haven’t already joined as a member, please sign up for an upcoming orientation, online here. You will receive discounted tuition rates. Below are the upcoming classes:

Editing with Adobe Premier: In this four session class you will learn the basics of importing footage, file management, cutting clips, transitions, graphics, and more.Instructor is Farzad Wafapoor and classes run Tuesdays, July 7, 14, 21, 28; 7-9pm.

Basic Studio Production:This class is for members who want to get started producing multi-camera studio programs in the HotSet and main studio. Over four sessions you will learn basic set design, studio lighting, camera operation, audio, and floor directing. Instructor is Miguel Rivas and classes run Wednesdays, July 8, 15, 22, 29; 7–9pm.

Community Event Coverage class: This one-session class will teach students how to video record their events, presentations, meetings, interviews for Web and cablecast. Instructor is Wendy Blom and this class wil run August 3rd from 1-3pm.

Stop Motion Animation: Students of all ages will work in groups to plan, produce, and edit original stop-motion animations using professional animation software and SCATV’s new DSLR cameras. Instructor is Jessica Barnthous and classes run Tuesday: August 4, 11, 18, 25; 7–9pm.

DSLR Filmmaking Classs: This two-session class is for field certified members and non-members with video production experience. The class will cover the use of SCATV’s Canon EOS 70D DSLR cameras with Tascam audio recorders. Learn how to choose video settings, determine depth of field, adjust lighting, and use the “follow focus” add-on. Instructor is Ben Morrow and classes run Tuesdays August 4 & 11; 7-9pm.

Basic Digital Media Production: This four-session class introduces students to all the elements of field video production including video, audio, and lighting. Learn to operate SCATV’s Panasonic video camcorders, the Canon DSLR cameras, and microphones. Instructor is Miguel Rivas and classes run Wednesdays, August 5, 12, 19 and 26; 7-9pm.
