JUST FYI: Pollinator Recovery Zone
The Somerville Arts Council awarded a Local Cultural Council Grant to Landscape Architects Anne Vaterlaus and Sarah Carrier in collaboration with Groundwork Somerville. Together, they designed and coordinated the installation of an environmental art piece called the Pollinator Recovery Zone . With the help of the GSW Green Team and community volunteers, 9 cedar posts were installed, supporting 13 wood boxes that are filled with bundles of reeds, each providing habitat for the native leaf cutter and mason bees –super pollinators of the bee world. The last phase of the project will surround the pollinator poles with a flower garden to be installed in Fall of 2015 and Spring of 2016.
