Position Summary

The Marketing Manager (MM) will set marketing strategies for the organization in close conjunction with our program team and Executive Director. Responsibilities include developing and carrying out strategies to increase public engagement in our programs; sell tickets, class registrations, and increase attendance and visibility for all events. The MM is also responsible for brand management, handling media relations, designing and sending print and email marketing communications including our monthly e-newsletter, managing social media, and overseeing the website content. As the lead marketing voice, this position will have an important role on projects and with special events in the community to advance the visibility and awareness of The Umbrella to the general public, our friends, our donors, the media, and other organizations.

Responsibilities

With input from Executive Director, Director of Development, and Program Directors, develop a strategic marketing plan for The Umbrella and its programs and events to grow our audiences, increase earned income, and increase visibility.
Develop and maintain a calendar and timeline of all marketing initiatives.
Function as a strong voice to advance the visibility and awareness of The Umbrella.
Write and distribute weekly and monthly media advisories and news releases. Maintain media lists/work with volunteers to ensure list is up to date and expanded as appropriate.
Design, prepare, set up, send, and oversee schedule for email marketing and correspondence. Work with local and mail order printers on pricing, schedule, and quality of materials.
Design, prepare, set up, and send monthly e-newsletter. Set content parameters and plan for year.
With staff input and assistance, define and carry out social media plan.
Analyze and review data and trends both internally and externally. Make appropriate changes and updates to our marketing strategies and programs based on review of data.
Oversee website content. Function as back up to make changes and edits on the website.
Ensure we post events and programs on key websites, blogs, etc. in a timely fashion.
Assist with planning and production of special events especially our annual fundraiser.
Manage the development of forms, coupons, advertisements, posters, flyers and marketing collateral pieces as needed. Outsource where appropriate and with budget approval.
Ensure that consistency is used in all Umbrella materials. Review catalogues and brochures to ensure standards are met.
Assist as needed with development and production of Umbrella catalogues and brochures.
Oversee photographing or videoing of occasional special events or programs. Submit requests to Volunteer Coordinator for photographers or hire photographer for events as needed and with budget approval. Oversee cataloging of photos so they are easy to access.
Develop and manage marketing budget

Required Knowledge and Skills

Love and passion for the arts and The Umbrella
Proactive self-starter with initiative, drive, common sense and flexibility
3 years’ experience in marketing and/or sales
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including working with the public and working with a strong office team.
Proven track record and excellent writing and copyediting skills. Experience writing press releases.
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, InDesign, Mail Chimp or comparable Email Marketing product, and working knowledge of Drupal are required.
Ability to understand HTML at a basic level
Excellent knowledge of social media and ability to write social media strategy and plan.
Strong attention to detail including strong analytical skills to review market analysis data including google analytics.
Effective project management skills and ability to multi-task.
Discretion and good judgment required including ability to maintain strict confidentiality especially as it relates to dealing with sensitive information.
Periodic weekend or evening work required

Education

Bachelor’s degree required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
Must be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery such as copier/printer, etc.
Frequently move equipment such as sandwich boards weighing up to 30 pounds to building entrance or take to other locations especially during the spring when we hold many programs and events
