SAIL AWAY LADIES SHOW
Journeys in Sound presents
A Sunday Afternoon with Sail Away Ladies
May 17, 2015 @ 4pm
Arts at the Armory Cafe 191 Highland Ave. Somerville
The Sail Away Ladies are a groundbreaking contemporary ensemble devoted to preserving American folk traditions while maintaining the caliber that conservatory training demands. With intricate arrangements, soaring harmonies, infectious grooves and intuitive improvisations, this virtuosic group transforms traditional folk music, world music, and contemporary repertoire, combining an old-time sensibility with a truly adventurous spirit.
The group is comprised of fiddler/singer/dancer/educator Eden MacAdam-Somer, cellist/composer/educator Ari Friedman, & her sister, fiddler/singer Mia Friedman. They, along with one time member Sarah Jarosz, started out as a 2009–2010 New England Conservatory Honors Ensemble enrolled in the Contemporary Improvisation program. Since that time, they have gone on on to have a life of their own.
