FREE DANCE PERFORMANCE in support of Mental Health Awareness Month - May 21, 2015 @ 6:30pm
Eugenia Kim will present excerpts from her latest work-in-progress, Lithium Hindsight, on May 21 at the Main location of the Somerville Public Library, 79 Highland Ave at 6:30PM. This free showing includes a performance by Wisty Andres, Amy Caine, and Katie Suyematsu followed by a discussion between the choreographer, performers and audience members.
Lithium Hindsight uses contemporary dance to show the physical sensations and inner challenges faced by adolescents and young adults (ages 12-21) struggling with bipolar disorder. The purpose of Lithium Hindsight is to help bring awareness of the fact that bipolar disorder is not just found in adults and to advocate for earlier diagnosis and treatment. The three pieces being shown at the showing portrays the following situations: pre-diagnosis, struggling with acceptance of diagnosis, and the challenges of finding proper medication.
This project is funded in part by a grant from the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Dancers appear courtesy of Penumbra:Movement (www.penumbrarme.org).
