PUPPETPalooza 2015 Call for Talent - March 2, 2015
The Somerville Arts Council (SAC) seeks to support and present local puppet companies in the area. SAC seeks touring puppeteers and puppet companies for a curated indoor or outdoor performance series of puppetry works that will take place on the streets, parking lots, municipal parks, and other spaces located in east Somerville. We are open to various models-- series of short vignettes or an evening of longer performances. We anticipate that the series will take place in May and June and that we will support four to six productions. Puppet Palooza is a collaboration between the Somerville Arts Council and East Somerville Main Streets as part of the This is East programming--- an event series designed to bring the art of puppetry to east Somerville in unexpected places.
The SAC and Performing Companies will provide:
• A production ranging with a minimum of 30 minutes in length. If a performance is less than the proposed time allotment, applicants may submit a series of smaller works by various artists.
• Joint marketing
• An appreciation for the complexity of outdoor productions and/or unique indoor settings
• Applicants may propose work from one company or a combination of companies. Performers will be
compensated. Submit the fee for the production. If applicable, include pricing for multiple shows.
Please indicate if price is negotiable.
Pre-planning: Applicants may propose a space in locations such as parks, public squares an d determine three dates in order of preference as well as indoor spaces; or SAC will work with the artists to help find a location. Please keep in mind SAC is not budgeting for space rental expenses. Puppeteers are expected to be technically self-sufficient and to plan or adapt their productions to the contingencies of the set location.
