SOMERVILLE SEEKS SPECIAL EVENTS MANAGER - January 8, 2015

Special Events Manager

The position is responsible for managing community, civic, and cultural events for the City of Somerville and specifically for the Somerville Arts Council (SAC). Employee is required to perform similar or related duties. Plans, coordinates and manages art, cultural, and civic events and programs. Designs and generates brochures, posters, and press releases. Serves as Program Manager for City events which include but are not limited to Mayor’s Fitness Challenge, Mayor’s Spring Clean Up, Fireworks, Family Fun Day, SomDog, Spring Fling, Dogfest and Pet Pallooza, SomerStreets, and others as assigned. Participates in Somerville Art Council event planning and implementation of programming including but not limited to ArtsUnion, ArtBeat, Illuminations Tour, and other SAC events as assigned. Employee is expected to work evenings and weekends. Employee is expected to work with a broad cross section of the public, business community, and residents, and other arts and cultural workers in the sector. Attend board and advisory meetings as assigned.

Qualifications:

BA degree in arts or humanities field, and five (5) years experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

3-5 years of community event planning and extensive knowledge of surrounding community and issues facing them.

Ability to meet and deal with the public effectively and appropriately; ability to handle problems effectively; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to operate a computer; ability to maintain, manage, and organize records; ability to deal appropriately with employees, officials, other elected officials and members of the general public; ability to plan, manage and execute public events and programs.

Excellent communication and writing skills; computer skills. Skill in handling pressure and adhering to time lines, working independently and being organized.

Salary: $60,000 per year; paid weekly at $1,153.85; plus benefits.
