FOOD INDUSTRY CAREERS - December 30, 2014
The City of Somerville/Somerville Arts Council, in collaboration with Kitchen Inc, is launching a Nibble Entrepreneurship Program (NEP). It is geared toward people in immigrant communities who are interested in pursuing food industry careers – whether it's catering, teaching cooking classes, restaurants, food production, etc. It will be a series of workshops and also a mentoring program; held at Kitchen Inc, in Union Square. We will launch this pilot program in January of 2015. If you are interested in this program, or know other folks who might be, see below.
This is an extension of our Nibble culinary/cultural programming, which includes market tours, cooking classes and food festivals. The Arts Council recognizes the valuable intersection between food and culture in providing ongoing diverse cultural programming and as a driving force of cultural economic development.
More about the Program
The City of Somerville is launching a program to help members of the immigrant community learn about possible career opportunities in the food industry. So, if you like to cook and are interested in pursuing a culinary career — starting a catering company, selling your food at markets/festivals or in stores, teaching cooking classes, etc. — you may be interested in this series. This will be an 8-week program that meets once a week; the sessions will be taught by a rotating group of city employees, business professionals and food business owners.
Most likely we’ll meet on a Monday or Tuesday evening, 6-8pm, beginning in January of 2015. Location will be Kitchen Inc., 201 Somerville Ave. COST: This program costs $100; but qualified applicants will receive financial support and will only have to pay $25
How to apply
Send an email to rachel@somerivlleartscouncil.org and we will send you an application
Deadline to apply
December 30, 2014; although please get in applications asap
How we will select participants
This is a small pilot program; we hope to select 8 participants. Preference may be given to Somerville residents who have solid cooking experience and either speak English or are enrolled ESL classes. We will let you know when we receive your application; we may follow up with an interview.
