Hello there,
I hope this message finds you well. Over the years, Vernon Street Studios has been recognized as an artistic community well known throughout the area for the quality of work produced by artists with established reputations as well as exciting newcomers. Located in an historic 19th-century brick industrial building, Vernon Street housed the first group of artists in Somerville to open their studios to the public in 1974. This year marks our 40th Anniversary of Vernon Street Open Studios, one of the oldest open studios events in the Greater Boston area. To honor this milestone, we will be having a special exhibit from mid- November to December at the Somerville Museum, featuring some of the original artists at Vernon as well as current residents. These founding artists are also invited to participate in Vernon Street Open Studios on December 6th & 7th. It will be an exciting event that will highlight the evolution and transitions this creative landmark has encountered through the years. For promotional purposes, I have attached a link to the Vernon Street website for access to hi-res photos. Feel free to contact me if you would like to schedule an interview or to take a tour of the building. We hope that you can join us for this momentous occasion.
Sincerely,
Heather Balchunas

During this showcase for the arts, mid-career and emerging artists working across a broad spectrum of fine art styles and craft media – including painting, photography, print-making, sculpture, glass, fiber, jewelry, furniture, and ceramics – will exhibit and sell their work ….just in time for the holiday season.
The Open Studios event allows attendees to learn about the creative process, interact with artists in the spaces where they create, purchase original artwork, and discover new talent.
The studios are located in the Rogers Foam facility, which is comprised of two buildings on the corner of Central and Vernon Streets. Parking is available in the large lot behind the buildings.
