HELP DESIGN MARTIAN CITIES OF THE FUTURE - October 25, 2014
Tomorrow The Department of Play and the Mobile Museum of American Artifacts will be at the Union Sq Farmers market 10-1 on the cobblestones near SCAT.
Come build structures with giant foam blocks created at the Artisans Asylum, and tour the vintage trailer that is MMoAA.
It's also knife sharpening day, so bring knives, tools, and scissors to have the sharpened while you shop..... or play!

All the Details here:
Block Party
Humans will establish a colony on Mars in 2024. Inspired by Somerville’s vibrant city life, experts on Martian urban development seek Somervillians’ help in designing the planet’s first cities.
Department of Play and The Mobile Museum of American Artifacts are hosting “Block Party” to enlist residents’ imagination and transmit the spirit of community to Mars.
Come join us on Saturday October 25th at the Union Square Farmer’s Market between 10am and 1pm. We’ll build prototypes of the future martian city out of giant foam blocks. The resulting models will be photographed. The Mobile Museum of American Artifacts, an itinerant museum of personal objects and their histories, will archive the pictures as part of their collection.
The Department of Play is a Cambridge-based collective. We create temporary play zones in cities. We believe in the transformative power of play and shared fun. By engaging socially diverse city residents through play, we question existing patterns of social segregation. We provide a space of encounter where people can experience and enjoy sharing each other’s differences.
The Mobile Museum of American Artifacts (MMoAA) is a touring museum of personal objects and their histories. Housed in a small vintage trailer, MMoAA travels from town to town, conducting an “archeology of the present” that uncovers objects of significant (and insignificant) connection to everyday American life.
Block Party play blocks were created at Artisan's Asylum in Somerville. The event is hosted by Union Square Farmers Market
