October 9, 2014, Cambridge MA: The Cambridge Art Association is pleased to announce our 70TH Members' Prize Show, juried by Al Miner, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, on view October 10 through November 15, 2014, at University Place Gallery (124 Mt Auburn Street, Harvard Square).

From 220 pieces submitted by 133 Cambridge Art Association Artist Members, Mr. Miner selected 61 artworks in various media. Mr. Miner also awarded 5 Artist of the Year awards to: Bill Briggs, Jeanine Pastore, Zoe Perry-Wood, Amy Brett Waltch and Fay Lamson Hannon. These five artists will be featured in a group exhibit at the Cambridge Art Association in 2016. The show opens to the public on Friday, October 10, with a reception that evening from 6-8pm; awards will be presented at 7pm.

From Al Miner:

Serving as this year's juror for the Members' Prize Show was an honor and a pleasure; as a Cambridge resident myself I was especially pleased to see so many strong entries. I travel frequently in my role as an institutional curator. When visiting other cities I'm often asked, what is the art scene like in Greater Boston? I tell them what I've known for four years now: the art scene here may be small, but it's vibrant - a close knit community of talented people working in a variety of mediums who have a lot to say. How could a city with such esteemed museums, renowned art schools, and creative thinkers be any other way? This exhibition is a testament to that energy and diversity, which I sought to reflect when awarding the prizes. Abstraction, representation, beauty, humor, printmaking, painting, and photography can all be seen among them. Congratulations to all the artists whose works activate these walls and to the Cambridge Art Association as they celebrate seventy years serving this community and its artists.
