SOMERVILLE CULTURAL EVENTS - July 2014
Hello Somerville cultural community. In the spirit of our Independence I want to reiterate two upcoming forums in which you can express you artistic independence---your expression and your concerns to leaders in the City and to the next potential governor.
Please plan to attend these two forums:
An Arts and Zoning workshop
You may have heard that the City’s Planning Department is reexamining zoning for entire City. Why should this concern the arts community? Zoning is key as to how the City determines what type of use and redevelopment is done in various neighborhoods in a City.
The Planning Department has created a series of workshops to address various topics relating to zoning. On Thursday, July 10th a specific session on Zoning and the Arts and Creative Economy will be held.
Please come out. While the workshop session starts at 4 p.m. it continues until 7:30 and from my understanding the information is not being delivered in a sequential format, i.e. if you can’t arrive until 6:30 you will not miss anything.
All sessions will be held at 50 Middlesex Ave., behind Style Café in the Public Storage building at Assembly Square
General information can be found here: http://www.somervillebydesign.com/category/zoning/
Specific information on the series can be found here: http://www.somervillema.gov/news/city-seeking-community-input-proposed-zoning-ordinance-through-public-workshops
A Create the Vote forum
Over the next five months, the Somerville Arts Council is partnering with MASSCreative and the Create the Vote Coalition to ensure that a thriving arts, culture, and creative sector is part of the discussion and debate during the 2014 gubernatorial election.
I want to personally invite you to join the statewide creative community in showing the candidates that arts matter in this election.
Please join us Tuesday, July 15 for Create the Vote Candidates’ Forum on Arts, Culture, and Creativity at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts in Worcester.
And be sure to indicate if you want to ride on the chartered bus; we’ll leave in the late afternoon and return early evening. Details in the RSVP link below.
