SOMERVILLE IMMIGRANT RESTAURANT FOOD FEST - April 10, 2014
YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City, April 10
On April 10, The Welcome Project hosts the 5th annual YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City celebration at Arts at the Armory at 7 pm. This year, nine immigrant-run restaurants will provide tastings from around the world, yet close to home. Live Peruvian music will be performed by Son Del Sol. We’ll present the 2nd annual Intercultural City Award to Regina Bertholdo, director of the Parent Information Center (PIC) at the Somerville Public Schools and a tireless advocate and champion for Somerville’s diverse immigrant community. Tickets in advance are $35 and $40 at the door. Find out more and get your tickets at www.yumsomerville.org.
The nine restaurants participating in the 2014 YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City are:
Aguacate Verde, Mexican, Porter Square; Fasika, Ethiopian, East Somerville; Istanbul’lu, Turkish, Teele Square; Los Paisanos, Central American, East Somerville; Masala, Indian and Nepali, Teele Square; The Neighborhood Restaurant & Bakery, Portuguese, Union Square; Sabur, Mediterranean, Teele Square; Vinny’s at Night, Italian, East Somerville; Yak & Yeti, Nepali and Indian, Ball Square. All participating restaurants are part of the city's Shape Up Approved -- Eat Well program, offering healthier options at their eateries.
All proceeds benefit immigrant youth and adults participating in Welcome Project programs such as English classes, youth interpreter training, and the International Parents' Group.
In 2013, YUM was selected by boston.com as one of its "favorite 15 quirky Boston area events." Don't miss the 2014 edition on April 10. Find more information and buy your tickets at www.yumsomerville.org.
