PARTS & CRAFTS EVENTS THIS WEEK - March 21-27, 2014

Cool stuff that's happening this week!

Movie Night @ Parts and Crafts!
Thursday March 27, 6-8 pm
Join us for our monthly movie night. This week we're watching the Wizards of Speed and Time, a 1989 feature-length film about the attempts of a special effects wizard to make a feature-length film. Cost: $5 suggested for pizza.

Kung Fu Wellness
Thursday afterschool, 3-5 pm
We still have some slots left in this sweet new afterschool class -- come learn basic basic techniques with hand forms, body stances, various kicks and punches. $10-20 session, sliding scale.

Upcoming workshops @ Parts and Crafts!

Workshop: Imaginary Maps!
Saturday March 29, 1-3 pm
A map-making workshop like you've never seen it before, pairing fractals, biology, the patterns of cells and neurons with worlds of our own devising. Hosted by Emily Garfield, a local artist specializing in cartography and flights of fancy. Come for open shop, stay for the workshop! $10-20 suggested, all are welcome regardless of ability to pay.

PLOTS Toolshed Raising: March Mapping Madness!
Sunday March 30, 12-4 pm
A full day of mapping with the Public Lab for Open Science and Technology! We'll head down to Union Square at noon to photograph the future MBTA Green Line Site, with the main space open for PLOTS meetup on water quality, thermal imaging and mapknitting. Free / by donation, all are welcome!

Mineways @ Parts and Crafts
Saturday April 12, 1-3 pm
A 3D printing workshop using Minecraft to make models. Along the way you'll learn how 3D printing works, how objects get sent to the printer, and what the rules are for this way of making things. $10-20 suggested sliding scale

3D printing @ Maud Morgan Art Center
April 21-24, 4-6 pm
Design your own gidgit-gadget, or even something useful like a keychain or a candlestick! This four-session crash course in 3D printing will kids through the initial phases of sketching and modeling their own creations. $150 for the week, open to kids age 10-13.

What: April Vacation Week!
When: April 21-25, 9 – 3 pm
Cost: $75-300, sliding scale ($25 for early care, $50 for late care)

What is April vacation camp? A whole week of invention and creation! We’ll have our electronics workbench, art table, a bunch of hand-tools, building supplies, scrap materials, air pumps, hot glue, duct tape, etc. Printers will be taken apart, bread will be baked, LEDs and motors will be glued to things, there may very well be giant cardboard sculptures. Who knows?
