AGASSIZ COOPERATIVE PRESCHOOL FUNDRAISER CALL FOR ART - April 12, 2014
Dear Somerville Community Artists and Entrepreneurs:
Agassiz Cooperative Preschool is a liberal, progressive preschool with a deep commitment to education and the arts. Agassiz runs on a modest budget, and the scale and number of scholarships it can offer to local pre-school-aged children are dependent on our fundraising efforts. We moved to Somerville just three years ago and aim to establish an exciting annual community event that celebrates creativity in our community while raising needed funds to continue to make Agassiz Preschool an affordable choice for as many children as possible.
Agassiz Preschool’s Art-for-Education Event will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 2 to 5 pm, on the corner of Spring and Summer Streets in Somerville. Organized and hosted by the kids, parents, and teachers of Agassiz, and open to the school’s neighbors and the general public, this dynamic and creative event will showcase local and “repurposed” art in a fun and relaxed silent auction, from which all proceeds will go to support enrollment of community children at Agassiz.
We are seeking donations of original artworks or repurposed art (the paintings/prints/sculpture stored in your basement or attic) from the artists, artisans, and “amateur collectors” in our community. We know that artists are besieged with requests for donations and we want you to know that we have the highest respect for the value of your work. In the spirit of cooperation and appreciation, we offer a proceed-sharing option. If you donate a piece of art or craft to our Art-for-Education Event, we will return to you 25% or 0% (your choice) of the amount it raises. We hope this helps indicate our appreciation for your valuable work and our commitment to a sustainable, mutually beneficial relationship with the Somerville arts community.
As a donor, you will also be a part of Art for Education’s many publicity activities, which will include a mix of public relations efforts: Marketing through the web and email; posters and flyers; direct mail; advertising; press; features on our Facebook page; and event-based press activities. Details of the April 12th event are being finalized, but this year there will be live music, delicious fare from a variety of Somerville’s culinary masters, tasty local brews, crafts for kids, and a Photo Booth (appropriate for all ages!). We will prominently display your donated piece with your name, studio address, web address, contact information, and any information or images you would like to include on a wall plaque, as well as in the auction booklet and on our website.
If you are participating in this year’s Somerville Open Studios, we will note in our materials that your art will also be available for viewing at that time.We hope to have many contributions from visual arts and crafts as well as tickets, memberships, and classes relevant to the arts. Thank you so much for considering any donation. Your generous gift will help us to secure additional gifts, create excitement about this year’s event, and continue to provide arts-based, early education to the children in your community. Note: Agassiz Preschool is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible.
If you're willing to donate or have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me directly. We will also be more than happy to pick up any donation from you in person.
Many thanks for your consideration,
