SOMERVILLE SENIORS ART EXHIBITION - January 23, 2014
Somerville, MA – Somerville Arts Council grant recipient Nancy Hall Brooks will exhibit a series of portraits of local seniors at the Somerville Council on Aging (COA). The show, entitled “Reflections: portraits of seniors in images and words,” will honor some of the unique and lively individuals from our community who regularly participate in communal activities at COA senior centers across Somerville. It will consist of pastel portraits of 9 individuals who regularly attend day programs at the COA’s Ralph and Jenny Center and who participated in two workshops held in November by the artist. The drawings will be accompanied by text based on life stories shared by workshop participants.
Brooks has been awarded a Local Cultural Council Artist Fellowship Grant for 2013 by the Somerville Arts Council. The show will feature artwork created during the award period and will be temporarily exhibited at the Ralph and Jenny Center, 9 New Washington Street, Somerville, on Thursday, January 23. The public is invited to attend a reception from 10 - 11:30 a.m. on January 23 to meet the workshop participants and the artist. The exhibit will subsequently hang at the Somerville Council on Aging Holland Street Center, 167 Holland Street, Somerville, MA 02144, from January 28 - February 21. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30-4:30.
This program is supported in part by the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
