Frank Zappa famously said, "Writing about music is like dancing about
architecture," but does the same apply to visual art? If a picture is worth
a thousand words, is it also worth a thousand musical notes? Can you make a
drawing of a song, or a sculpture of a sound that you love or hate? In
*Audio/Visual:
A show of visual art exploring sound/music*, over a dozen artists will
attempt to answer these questions.
For one evening, music will be better seen than heard as it takes form in
photography, drawing, sculpture, embroidery, and other visual media. This
group show blends artists from within and without the Washington Street Art
Center, presenting a diverse soundscape for the eyes. How does music convey
a feeling or emotion - and can it be made concrete? Will a viewer get the
essence of the song in silence? And will the DJ stylings of Mark E. Moon,
at the opening on January 11th, create a very different experience than the
afternoon gallery silence of subsequent Saturdays?
Artists in the show include Frank Aveni, Nicholas Burgess, Jef Cjekaj, Jill
Comer, Meagan Mary Creamer, Marissa Falco, Mike Gintz, Gretchen Graham, Lee
Kilpatrick, Lauren Leone, Brian Rusnica and Anna Warrock.
