SOMERVILLE ARMORY EVENTS - October 2013

Here are this week's events at the Armory! The Cafe features Celtic/folk music (Wednesday), local singer-songwriters (Thursday), Haitian song and poetry (Friday) and acclaimed Aussie singer-songwriter Mark Wilkinson (Saturday). The Mezz hosts a film screening on Thursday and a Local is for Lovers / Babywearing International mini-market for families on Saturday. And the Hall presents a multicultural dance festival (complete with evening theatrical dance performance!) on Saturday.

Heart Soul Voice
Wed. Oct. 9, 8-10:00 PM, in the Café, Donations
Heart Soul Voice will play various sounds that include Celtic, folk, and original songs, tunes, and improvisations on harp, keyboard, guitar, voice and fiddle.

Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin & the Farm Midwives
Thu. Oct. 10, 5:30-9:00 PM, in the Mezzanine, $18/$12 for students
The Massachusetts Midwives Alliance presents a film screening of "Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin & the Farm Midwives", as a fundraising event for their organization. There will be raffles, a film showing, and a discussion to follow. Please come for this night of fun, film, and an interesting look at birth in America.

Singer-Songwriter Event: The Loop
Thu. Oct. 10, 7:00 – 9:30 PM, in the Cafe, Free
A collective of singers, songwriters and musicians who are based in the Boston area, The Loop will play sets of 15-30 minutes of music of various styles. We welcome those who have interest in developing their own creative outlet in music and songs as well as those who merely want to enjoy the music and atmosphere.

Living Poetry and Song of Haiti
Fri. Oct. 11, 7-10:00 PM, in the Cafe, suggested donation $10
This event will have a cultural presentation by Trilingual Press, followed by presentation of multiple authors’ new books and music by Idi from his upcoming album Presenters. Come and enjoy a wonderful night of poetry and music.

Local is for Lovers: October Market with Babywearing International Boston
Sat. Oct. 12, 8:30-11:30 AM, in the Mezzanine, Free
Join Somerville Local First at their next market on October 12th from 8:30am-11:30am with Babywearing International Boston! It's a special babywearing event, so lots of parents with young children will be attending.

Raqtoberfest
Sat. Oct. 12, 3:00-10:00 PM, in the Performance Hall
Raqtoberfest is Boston’s premier Tribal Fusion Belly Dance festival, created and produced by Urban Nomad Dance Co. This day-long festival will include a belly dance workshop by nationally acclaimed Tribal Fusion artist, Jenna Shear, as well as interactive Middle eastern, Balkan, North African and Andalusian dance workshops by the most sought-after local presenters in these genres. Mark Wilkinson
Sat. Oct. 12, 8-10:00 PM, in the Café, Free
Celebrated Aussie singer-songwriter Mark Wilkinson comes to the Armory as part of his debut North American tour! Mark's second studio album, Let The River Run, was released on August 9, 2013 and hit #2 on the Australian iTunes singer-songwriter charts within 24 hrs of the release and Mark's single 'Middle Ground' reached #2 on the iTunes s/s charts, debuted at #2 on the Independent Music Charts, and climbed to #12 on the ARIA (RIAA) singles chart.
