ARTS CENTER SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - November 4, 2013

Arlington Center for the Arts -- Executive Director Position Posting

The Arlington Center for the Arts (ACA) is an arts hub for Arlington and surrounding communities, collaborating with town, schools and community organizations to promote the arts by providing creative workshops and classes for all ages. ACA also provides theme-based vacation camps in visual and performance arts and sponsors numerous seasonal events such as Arlington Open Studios and Shakespeare in the Parks.

Currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, the ACA is in a strategic planning process to increase its impact and ensure its sustainability. The ACA serves thousands of people each year, and its annual operating budget is over $500,000. For more information, please visit the ACA’s website at www.acarts.org.

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive of the ACA, overseeing a staff of five and more than 35 artist/teachers, and working with the Board of Directors to accomplish short-term goals and develop longer-term strategic priorities. The Executive Director is responsible for: Board Administration and Support; Program, Product, and Service Delivery; Financial, Tax, Risk, and Facilities Management; Human Resource Management; Community and Public Relations; and Fundraising.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Partnering effectively with the Board of Directors to translate the ACA’s mission and strategies into sustainable programs and priorities.
2. Overseeing the design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs and services.
3. Maintaining positive broad public outreach to promote ACA’s mission and programs, and providing the Board with knowledge of significant competitive developments and trends in Arlington specifically and community arts generally.
4. Recommending a yearly budget for Board approval and managing ACA’s resources within those budget guidelines. Overseeing compliance with all local, state and federal reporting requirements. Responsible for facilities maintenance.
5. Overseeing the financial health and sustainability of the ACA by developing and executing a diversified fundraising action plan to significantly increase revenue. Actively developing alliances with private and government entities that provide sustainable programs and/or fiscal benefit to the ACA.
6. Promoting active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the ACA’s work.
7. Hiring, motivating, evaluating and managing staff.

This is a full-time position with benefits and a competitive salary based on experience.

Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in arts administration, community arts education, or equivalent experience. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to the arts, as well as strong nonprofit management and fundraising experience and skills. The candidate should demonstrate strong oral and written communications skills, a keen interest in community engagement, and experience working with diverse groups of people in a creative and fast-paced environment. The position includes some evening and weekend responsibilities.
