SOMERVILLE CALL FOR PUPPETERS - May 1, 2013

We’re looking for puppeteers to participate in a performance series in east Somerville

2013

The Somerville Arts Council (SAC) seeks to support and present local puppet companies in the area. SAC seeks touring puppeteers and puppet companies for a curated outdoor performance series of short-form (5 to 20 minutes) puppetry works that will take place on the streets, parking lots, municipal parks, and other found outdoor spaces located in east Somerville. We are open to various models-- series of short vignettes or an evening of longer performances. We anticipate that the series will take place on Tuesdays in June and that we will support four to six productions.

The SAC will provide:

• Joint marketing

• Permitting & Location scouting

Performances Companies will provide:

• A production ranging from 5 to 30 minutes in length (with the possibility for multiple performances in an evening)

• Joint marketing

• An appreciation for the complexity of outdoor productions

• Applicants may propose work from one company or a combination of companies.

Performers will be compensated. Submit the fee for the production. If applicable, include pricing for multiple shows. Please indicate if price is negotiable.

Preplanning: Applicants should scope out the locations below or other public areas; i.e. parks, public squares and determine three dates in order of preference. Applicants may propose an indoor space but SAC is not budgeting for space rental expenses. Puppeteers are expected to be technically self-sufficient and to plan or adapt their productions to the contingencies of site-specific outdoor performance.If you wish to discuss whether an area is appropriate please contact : Heather Balchunas at hbalchunas@somervillema.gov or 617.625.6600 ext. 2985.
