SOMERVILLE GALLERY CALL FOR ARTISTS - May 17, 2013

Call for Artists for the Inside-Out Gallery ( Davis Square CVS window) for July Window

The Inside-Out Gallery is located in the CVS Window in Davis Square, a unique space that allows the public to view an eclectic array of works from artists and local organizations each month. It is the goal of the Somerville Arts Council to showcase the cultural diversity that community has to offer.

We are looking for artists or guest curators to showcase works for July to coordinate with the ArtBEAT theme which is Micro.

Below, you will find information on the festival and this year's theme. We are open to possibilities. If there are people who have an amazing idea would like to submit as a group or individuals working to develop a theme-- all ideas are welcome. Let you imagination go wild. Feel free to contact us if you have questions.

About ArtBEAT
ArtBeat is Somerville's annual multi-media street party! The festival showcases the City's diverse and vibrant arts communities and attracts ten thousand visitors to Davis Square. Presented by the Somerville Arts Council (SAC) and Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone. ArtBeat is now it's 27th year and features an eclectic mix of music, dance, theater, food, performance and interactive activities. More than 80 regional and local craft and fine art vendors will be selected to showcase their work during the Saturday afternoon.

2013 theme: micro
Thinking big has been done. So this year, we invite you to think small. "Micro" evokes many things: microscopes, microwaves, microgrooves, micro-beers, micro-grants (like kickstarter) and perhaps even Micronesia! Visual artists might explore infinitesimally small patterns/forms or how smaller pieces can be integrated into a larger work—think Chuck Close portraits. Ultimately, we are interested in exploring how small things might attract oversized impact and attention. We look forward to your creative interpretation of this theme!
All mediums welcome: drawing, painting, jewelry, sculpture, photography, film, etc.

How to submit:
Please send 5 jpegs of your work to hbalchunas@somervillema.gov
For group proposals/installations, please send a short description of your idea with a sketch or photographs of what you intend to do .
Include size, medium, and your contact information (Name, phone number, and email address)
Please note due to size restrictions and space limitations, not all applications will be accepted.
All work must be ready to hang.
Deadline for Submissions is Monday May 17, 2013

For questions feel free to contact Heather Balchunas, 617-625-6600 x-2985
