(Somerville, MA) The Nave Gallery Annex in Davis Square presents "PICNIC," a group exhibition curated by Jenn Harrington and Susan Berstler featuring the work of sixteen local and regional artists. The exhibit runs from January 25-February 8, 2013, with an opening reception on Friday, January 25, 2013, 6-9 p.m. and a closing reception and auction on Friday, February 8, 2013, 6-8 p.m. PICNIC is the inaugural exhibit of the Nave Gallery's secondary site—the Nave Gallery Annex—in Davis Square.
“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”
—Albert Camus
PICNIC glorifies the lush serenity, the ripe thriving growth, the vibrant color of what's living in those sultry days of summer. PICNIC. A psalm to summer. A feast of heat. A babble of bright light. A fragrance of fruit. A sprint to the glistening sun. A place to have a picnic.
Open call to "Preserve Summer"
Deadline, Friday, accepting entries now until February 8, 2013
The Nave Gallery Annex asks local artists to capture the endless and invincible season of summer in a mason jar. Whether it be reflections on its color and light, or that never-ending bloom, entries should fit neatly in a "1-Quart Ball Wide Mouth Jar with Lid." The rules are simple: stay inside the jar. A select number of jars will be on display at the gallery's first exhibit, PICNIC. All entries will be auctioned off during the closing reception of PICNIC to support this experimental space.
