BOSTON RED SOX INSPIRED ART EXHIBITION - September 27 - October 20, 2012

Fenway Park, Red Sox history celebrated with art

By Johanna Kaiser, Town Correspondent
While Red Sox fans might be in the dumps this season, baseball lovers have a chance to recall better years at a local art exhibit honoring 100 years of Fenway Park.
Take Me Out To The Ball Game: Celebrating Fenway@100,”an exhibit at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery, is a multimedia salute to baseball, the Red Sox, and Fenway Park by more than 28 artists and collectors—most of them from New England.
The exhibit, on display through Oct. 20, will feature oil paintings, quilts, prints, watercolors, drawings, and cartoons, and display black and white photographs of the Red Sox from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s taken by local news photographer Laban H. Whittaker.
That display includes 25 images that have never before been shown in a gallery.
Other works at the exhibit include paintings by Justyn Farano, the official artist for the Ted Williams Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida; photographs of the 2004 championship rolling rally by Boston Globe photographer Bill Brett; and impressionistic works of crowds on Yawkey Way by Chelsea painter Arnie Casavant.
Artists Lou Jones, John Kennard, Loretta Feeney, Elaine Ostrander, Mara Aspinall, Michael McCauley also have art on display.
“This is no doubt the definitive Fenway @100 exhibit of the season,” said art gallery director Laura Montgomery. “It is a hit right out of the park.”
A baseball inspired reception at the gallery on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. will feature Fenway fare and music, including a sing-along performance of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” and “Sweet Caroline” by the official Red Sox organist Josh Kantor and a visit from Wally the Green Monster!

Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery is free and open to the public-
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues. & Thrs. 10 a.m. to 7p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
