SOMERVILLE BLUE CLOUD GALLERY EXHIBITION - May 21 through June 18, 2011
May 21 through June 18: JANICE SCHUPAK will be BLUE CLOUD GALLERY'S FEATURED ARTIST
Working with colored pencil and ink on paper, Janice breaks down nature motifs into blocks of solid color and enhances the forms with black outline, evoking stained glass or patchwork. The beauty she creates from her visual world lies in its patterns and colors. Because of her low vision, many things that she sees start out as abstract images before she identifies them as objects. From the wealth of shapes in the natural world, she chooses an object for its potential as an abstract design. Janice will play with a repeated motif, varying it slightly each time. Trees are a recurring theme. For Janice, it is the feeling of completing a musical phrase, knowing the right balance between color and pattern. Colors, shapes and patterns speak to her and she delights in their voices.
Janice is showing her original artwork at Blue Cloud Gallery, 713 Broadway in Ball Square from May 21 to June 18. We invite you to come take a look! (Her jewel-toned cards are always available for sale.)
