The Wild Side of Bollywood
Wednesday, Feb. 9, 8pm

“The Wild Side Of Bollywood” showcases the unique, surreal, often psychedelic dance sequences from South Asian films from the 1950’s to the ‘80’s, a time when western styles of rock and funk mixed with Hindustani music met in sequences known as “item numbers” set in cabarets, bars and discos. We’ll take a special look at the actress/dancer “Helen,” who appeared in over 500 films and is beloved throughout the Indian diaspora. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with event curator Brother Cleve and Mona Kumar, producer of the MFA’s South Asian film festival. And following that, there will be a dance performance, Indian-themed libations and Bollywood beats.

...come find out at the South Asian Showdown! We will have the best teams from all over North America competing for the South Asian Showdown crown!! This competition puts 4 of the most popular dance forms from South Asia on one stage to compete against one another for the best dance of the night. We have selected 12 teams from all over North America to represent their respective genres. If you love indian dance, or want to learn more about indian dance, this is a MUST SEE show!
