SOMERVILLE MUSIC FESTIVAL
Hello. The Somerville Arts Council and Nancy Goodman are seeking input for the establishment of a new Somerville event: “Somerville Porchfest.” Porchfest is a down home way of highlighting Somerville’s musical talent—whether you are a classical musician or a member of a hard rock band, young or old, this is a great format to highlight Somerville’s musicians.
The idea for Porchfest is simple. We choose one Saturday in the late spring and local musicians perform on their porches. The Arts Council will help structure the event with promotion and an online map. You the musician will need to coordinate with your neighbors to
make sure it’s okay to play music on the porch for a short time. If we get a lot of porches in the mix, we can structure it so sections of neighborhoods are performing at different times of the day. The audience merely travels around to check out the sounds in various
neighborhoods. Think Somerville Open Studios but for music and outdoors.
Based on the Council’s own busy schedule, we were thinking of holding this in mid to late May.
Porchfest has become a popular decentralized party in numerous other cities, check out those in Ithaca, NY., Cranbury, NJ, Newton, PA.

If you are interested in participating or helping to organize, please plan to attend our first general meeting.
