Fall's a busy time in Cyber-land, so let's get busy!

Attention Gamers!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Behind the Game" is the first exhibition that brings together
concept art being created at many of Massachusetts' most prominent video game developers.
Concept art is a form of illustration that serves as a bridge between the game's
design and final, in-game graphics.
While it serves this purpose, a game concept art piece can transcend its
production role and be appreciated for its own merits: technique, idea, and artistry.
"Behind the Game," curated by Ezra Cove, presents this sometimes invisible art to
a wider audience beyond developers and hardcore gamers.
The exhibition takes place at the Gallery at Mount Ida College, 777 Dedham Street
in Newton. The exhibition runs from
September 8 through October 18, and is open It's open Tuesdays through Sundays
from 1-5pm. The
opening reception on September 16 from 5-7 pm features Tara Rueping, Lead

Pulling Back the Curtain

Axiom's next exhibition, "Pulling
Back the Curtain," is a group show of works that explore ideas of perception,
layers of clandestine meaning and the uncertainty of nostalgic emotion. The
ten featured artists were selected through a call for submissions that reached
artists from across the United States. Ambiguity, personal observation, and
mystery emerged as common themes across the works chosen, resulting in a
cohesive mix of compelling works in media that include animation, film, and mechanized
and electronic sculpture.
The show was juried by George Fifield and Heidi Kayser, and includes works by
Joseph Farbrook, Henry Gwiazda, Megan and Murray McMillan (whose work is pictured
here), Nick Montfort,Denyse Murphy, Sarah Rushford, Allison Safford, John Slepian,Jessica
Westbrook,and Jonathan Vingiano.
The Axiom Center for New and
Experimental Media is located at 141 Green Street, next to the Green Street T
Stop on the Orange Line. The exhibition
is on now and runs through September 27. There's a reception on September 11
from 6-9 pm and an artist talk and open group critique on September 27 from 4-6

at Northeastern University's Gallery 360. Called
simply "Installations," the show includes Tim's work "Who's That?" (pictured here),
plus his sculptures "Tubes" and
"Lifelines."
The works are on display now through October 8, and there's a reception September
16 from 4-7 pm.
Gallery 360 is located in the Ell Building at

summer you still have a few days to see "Human^n,"
an interactive kaleidoscope that's on view at the Museum of Science through September
8. "Human^n," created by
cyberartists Carmin Karasic and Rolf Van Gelder, was a big hit at the 2009
Festival. So get yourself on over to the Museum of Science before it's too
late!
