Surprise the Tender Alphabet: image meets text
Curated by Ann Forbush and Jenny Lawton Grassl
June 5 ? June 28th
Surprise the Tender Alphabet: image meets text, features the following work of thirteen artists from the New England area, Louise Berliner, Jeanne Borofsky, Miss Lyn Cardinal, Abigail Child, David Curcio, Kay Dolezal, Ann Forbush, Fran Forman, Jenny Lawton Grassl, Melanie Hedlund, Trish Elwood O'Day, Heather Townsend, and James Zall These artists are painters, printmakers, photographers, sculptors and performance artists who embrace text or language in their artwork. Legible writing and poetry appear in some works while others offer more ambiguous or subliminal messages. Their alphabet takes many forms, from intimate handwriting scrawled in a diary to disintegrating messages found on the street; allowing the fusion of words and images to seduce, comfort or incite.
This exhibit opens on Friday, June 5th, 2009. There will be an artist reception held on Saturday, June 6th, 2009 from 3-5 p.m. For further information please contact Michelle Fiorenza at mfiorenza@artsomerville.org or visit our website at
