TOUCH ME NOT
Willow Community Gallery in LynnArts, Inc.
June 15 - July 17, 2009.
Reception: Saturday, June 27, 2-4pm

(LYNN, MA) - Unless there are specific instructions otherwise, it’s a common museum and gallery policy that viewer’s are not to touch artworks in order to protect them from damage.

Malden artist Sand T has chosen “TOUCH ME NOT” as the exhibition theme because her work pushes the “no touching” policy to new heights of temptation. The glistening, shining surfaces of her paintings give them an appearance of being wet with beaded water. The physical properties of the paintings fill viewers with an almost irresistible urge to touch them.

However, if the artwork is touched, it is easily scratched and residues from oils and salts from fingertips and hands are left behind. This will cause major damage to the surfaces over time.

In response to this dilemma, the artist has created a special piece of artwork entitled “PLEASE DO TOUCH” as part of the collection in this exhibit. Sand T says she “hopes this particular piece gratifies the 100 touch receptors in each of your fingertips, and the other works touch your sense of sight and artistic sensibility.

Viewers will have a chance to see 10 new pieces from Sand T’s latest collection in this solo exhibit at the Willow Community Gallery at LynnARTS from June 15 through July 17, 2009. The public is cordially invited to a reception with the artist scheduled for Saturday, June 27, from 2-4pm.

SAND T’s new works on acrylic glass panel using epoxy resin and graphite create a meditative visual experience with basic elements of dot, line, color, surface and light. They suggest abstract concepts such as time, concentration, and the meditative energies of motion.

Simplicity, repetition, and structure inspire the unifying theme of this exhibition. This is achieved through lines drawn with graphite, dots formed by resin droplets, monochromatic color scheme, square panels and light.

These newly created works will join another 90 pieces of the series in an exhibition at the Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah at University Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysian for the month of December in 2009.

Sand T was awarded FIRST PLACE by Nick Capasso, Senior Curator of the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park of Lincoln, MA for works from this series submitted to a juried show at Clark University in November 2007.

Sand T has exhibited her work in solo shows in Malaysia and the United States. She has participated in group shows in the United States, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. Her work resides in public and private art collections worldwide, including Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and The United States.
