(Lynn, MA – February 2, 2009 ) - - LynnArts will host an opening reception for three new exhibits on February 14, 2009 from 2pm-4pm: Wearable Art – a group exhibit juried by MFA curator Lauren D. Whitley; New Work by Denyse Murphy, a solo exhibit of cyanotype prints, and Notan art work by young artists from Saugus High School, in the Hartman Leigh Children's Gallery. Each exhibit opens to the public on February 5, and runs through March 13, 2009.

Wearable Art showcases work made for and about the body, and includes fiber arts, clothing, jewelry, sculpture and more. The show features the work of over 25 artists from throughout New England. (see list at end of press release). The show was curated by Lauren Whitley the David and Roberta Logie Curator for the Department of Textile and Fashion Arts, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She holds an MA in Museum Studies from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, and received her BA in Art History from Trinity College, Hartford, CT. Whitley has worked at the MFA since 1992 during which time she curated several exhibitions including High Style and Hoop Skirts, 1850s Fashion and Threads on the Edge, The Daphne Farago Fiber Art Collection and The Quilts of Gee’s Bend.

Denyse Murphy's solo exhibit will be on display in LynnArts' Willow Community Gallery. The exhibit features a body of work created with cyanotype photography, india ink, and paints, blurring the line between photography and painting. Murphy's pieces feature ghostly white silhouettes, defined mostly by the blue space they inhabit.

LynnArts is currently accepting proposals from individual artists, independent curators, and groups of artists for their 2010 gallery calendar. Interested applicants should refer to the LynnArts website, www.lynnarts.org for more information about submitting a proposal. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2009.
