DECEMBER PROGRAMS AT FRESH POND RESERVATION

These events are FREE and open to the public.
Children are welcome in the company of an adult.
Offered by Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation

SEEDS AND WEEDS

Saturday, December 13
1:00 to 3:00 pm
Maynard Ecology Center, Basement of Neville Place
650 Concord Avenue

Do you know how plant seeds “leave home” when they are ready? During this FAMILY PROGRAM we will spend time outside looking for seeds and discovering how they travel. Indoors, we will use hand lenses and microscopes to look at some of our seeds “up close and personal.” Join us to find out how wearing sox on your hands can be a useful scientific technique! This program will be fun and informative for people of all ages, including adults with and without children.

LAST CHANCE (in 2008) BIRD WALK

Sunday, December 14
1:00 to 3:00 pm
Meeting Place: Driveway, Neville Place
650 Concord Avenue

The parade of migrating waterfowl at Fresh Pond continues into late fall. By December the long-distance flyers such as canvasbacks and redheads will have arrived, and all three merganser species may be present. We will use a telescope to identify birds on the water, and binoculars to look at over-wintering songbirds in the trees. We have binoculars to lend and will show you how to use them. Dress warmly; it can be very cold and windy near the water! Beginners are welcome.

A BIRD WALK FOR TEENAGERS

Sunday, December 21
1:00 to 3:00 pm
Meeting Place: Driveway,Neville Place
650 Concord Avenue

Father/son birders Jeff and Sam Talarigo will lead this walk to look for migratory waterfowl and over-wintering songbirds at Fresh Pond. This walk is exclusively for teenagers, 13 to 17. No birding experience is necessary. We have a telescope to share and binoculars to lend, and will show you how to use them. Please let us know if you plan to come! (see below.)
