The Buzz on Act/React

act react at mamThe Milwaukee Art Museum is the site of Act/React, an exhibition of interactive art curated by Boston Cyberarts' own George Fifield and featuring works by our friends Camille Utterback, Brian Knep, and others. The show, which opened on October 4 and continues through January 11, has garnered amazing critical response and public buzz. Articles have appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, on CNN, and in media outlets throughout the US and the world.

Figment's Imagination

Andrew Neumann at AXIOM

andrew neumannThe Axiom Center for New and Experimental Media is presenting Andrew Neumann's kinetic sculpture in his first solo show in Boston in almost two years, The exhibition, entitled "The Last Picture Show," features the artist's most recent moving industrial wall panels and showcases his evolving use of multi-channel video frames to redefine the analysis and engagement inherent to the machine. Neumann is a Boston-based artist working in a variety of media, including sculpture, film/video installation, and electronic/interactive music.
"The Last Picture Show" runs through December 13. There will be an an artist talk on the last day, at 3:30pm. The talk is free and open to the public. streaming museum"Artists and Innovators for the Environment" is part one of a three-part exhibition series featuring international visionary creators - people like scientist Buckminster Fuller, photographer James Nachtwey, composer John Cage, new media artist Brian Mackern, and many others, as well as innovative designs for environmental sustainability by Chuck Hoberman and others. It's presented by Streaming Museum, a new hybrid museum that presents real-time exhibitions in both cyberspace and in public spaces -- on seven continents! Exhibitions are produced in New York City, but you can see them in cyberspace at the Streaming Museum's website and at Ars Virtua New Media Center in Second Life, as well as at public locations around the world.

Wired for Sound 2009

There's still time for composers to submit entries for the 2009 Wired for Sound electroacoustic music festival, taking place April 26-27 at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge. Organizers are accepting submissions for fixed media and live electroacoustic, plus a special category for young performers from Longy's preparatory division. For details and submission guidelines, click here. Postmark deadline is November 21, so don't delay!

The 2009 Boston Cyberarts Festival is coming up soon, April 24 - May 10, 2009. We've already got some wonderful events and exhibitions planned for next spring: video art at the DeCordova, electronic literature, a brand new multimedia opera, an Ideas in Motion dance project.
