EAST SOMERVILLE ART WALK - May 19, 2008

East Somerville Main Streets invites you to the Opening Reception of The Colors of the Americas : East Somerville Art Walk

Saturday April 19, 2008 2pm
Casey's at 171 Broadway

Meet the Artists! Meet new friends! Come explore East Somerville! There will be food, music, and special reception-only art happenings!

Running from April 19 – May 20, The Colors of The Americas will celebrate and reflect the vibrant, welcoming spirit of East Somerville by bringing to the sidewalks of Broadway the works of 19 local artists representing over a dozen countries of the Americas.

Hosted in storefront windows of shops, restaurants, and offices all along East Broadway between Sullivan Square and McGrath Highway, this community-driven initiative brings together a diverse group of Latino artists and voices in a way designed to challenge old notions, crosslines, stimulate new conversations and new understandings, and expand the local arts spectrum.

Whether by origin or interpretation, each artist will represent both a specific country or culture, as well as the intermingling and spaces between these worlds. Through works of photography, painting, mixed media, and installation, artist and public will meet on the streets to explore and extract the many interpretations of our identity, the connections we have to one another and our community, and what it really means to be an American.
