Jimmy Tingle's OFF BROADWAY Theater - May 20 - June 10, 2007
Bellylaughs, Blessings, Blarney and Bingo!
“MISGIVINGS”
Father Patrick Aloysius Misgivings offers a “divine” afternoon of stories and one-liners about growing up Catholic. From miracles and marriage counseling to bazaars and birth control, nothing escapes the good father’s razor sharp wit. This interactive comedy features a collection, a raffle, and an actual game of bingo!
Fr. Misgivings is the stage persona of Dave Kane, who comments, “Fr. Misgivings is the kind of priest you grew up with. A good and decent man dedicated to his collar, his religion and doing the right thing for all his parishioners, young and old. He’s the kind of priest who has Bingo but he calls out the numbers in Latin so the Protestants can’t win”.
Dave Kane’s character of Fr. Misgivings started on the radio as an ad-lib. Now some 30 years later, it is a one-man show that has them laughing in the aisles, and is the only show of its kind that features a priest as the main character. Dave Kane has performed this lively show starring Father Patrick Aloysius Misgivings with his Irish brogue and quick wit for many years at numerous venues, including opening with the character for Art Garfunkel and Jerry Vale. Kane is a talk show host on WNRI in Rhode Island with a strong following for his comedy throughout the state. He is also the author of “41 Signs of Hope” a book devoted to his son Nicky who died in the Station nightclub fire. The book is described as “A father’s grief in the wake of one of America’s worst disasters becomes a certainty that life and love continue forever”.
Fr. Misgivings Preaches the Virtue of Laughter: Kane comments about “Misgivings” that he likes to see people “feeling good about being Catholic”. “Laughter is God’s anesthetic”. “Laughter is a gift from God. When you are laughing you can’t do anything else.”
