April is National Poetry Month. Jimmy Tingle’s OFF BROADWAY Theater celebrates, with exceptional poetry and spell-binding performance poetry in one extraordinary, brilliant night of entertainment.
PART ONE
7:30-8:30 p.m.
Ten poets in Dr Brown's Traveling Poetry Show return to Jimmy Tingle's OFF BROADWAY Theater. Here’s your chance to get a National Poetry Month hit of the best performance poetry you are likely to see on stage anywhere, and to get copies of their books. Their original poetry comes at you from all sides as they take the stage and the room. Beware, the person sitting next to you could be a poet!
Their interactive poetry invites you to relive childhood memories, play with colorful characters, rise up for social injustice, ponder chemistry, suffer dentistry, and more. This one-hour theatrical show of great poets performing their own poetry to your delight and awe, will feature Douglas Bishop, Jonathan Chin, Tom Daley, Melissa Guillet, Valerie Lawson, Ryk McIntyre, Mala Radhakrishnan, and more. Directed by Michael Brown.
Michael Brown, author of four poetry books, national slam finalist, and member of a championship slam team, brought the poetry slam (performed poetry as a competitive event) to New England in 1991. For thirteen years he hosted open mikes and slams at the Cantab Lounge, then turned to doing theatrical productions of original poetry performed by local poets. In 2004-5 his troupe played regularly at Jimmy Tingle’s. In late 2005 they moved to the Zeitgeist Gallery for four months. Now they are back for an all-night show of the great poetry performances. More info about Michael Brown, including his numerous awards, publications, and listings in prestigious volumes including “Who’s Who” and more, please visit: http://michael.brown.name

PART TWO
8:45-9:45 p.m.
The Boston Poetry Slam presents an all-star no-holds-barred competition for no money, no prize, and all the glory the winner can carry home. Six local poets, selected from Boston's thriving slam community, will compete for the attention of the audience and the Olympic-style scores of randomly selected judges. Come cheer, laugh, snap, cry, and heckle as slammers pull out all the lyrical stops in an effort to be the last poet standing.
This portion of the show will be hosted by Simone Beaubien, SlamMaster of the Boston Poetry Slam, four-time National Poetry Slam competitor, and MC for the 2007 Individual World Poetry Slam Finals in Vancouver, B.C.
In 2003, fabulous poet and slam champion Simone Beaubien reinvigorated the series which she continues to host at the Cantab. She has competed in several national slams and has performed with Dr Brown’s troupe. She will bring her strong stage presence to host a demonstration slam among the six best poets from this year's Cantab competition in wild show of poetic prowess. Judges will be selected from the audience to score the poets Olympic style.
Come enjoy this fast-paced stage show of performance poetry!
