St. Matthew's Passion Performance - March 24, 2007

The Back Bay Chorale (which includes Barb Siftar, Melissa Haber, and several other Somervillagers) will be performing Bach's masterful St. Matthew's Passion at Sander's Theater on March 24th at 8 o'clock. The 100 person chorale will be joined by the 40 voice Boston Boy Choir, a 50 piece orchestra, and 6 world-class soloists, including Frederick Urrey as the Evangelist and local David Kravitz (founder of Blue Mass Group) as Jesus. Tickets are $25 - $45 with a $5 student/senior discount, available by phone at 617 648 3885, at www.bbcboston.org and through the Sander's website.

Please come! The piece is wildly exhilerating and intensely personal, and so far rehearsals have been fantastic. When the chorale last performed this piece, Richard Dyer, music critic of the Boston Globe proclaimed that the performance was the “Oratorio of the Year” in his year-end review--we were the only amateur group to achieve that distinction that year. Having benefited from that experience, this year's performance promises to be even better.
