SOMERVILLE WINDOW ARTS PROJECT - April 2, 2007
THIS YEAR’S THEME: Acquainted With the Night
DEADLINE: April 2, 2007 (or application must be postmarked April 2,
2007)
The Somerville Arts Council and ArtsUnion invite visual artists to submit work for WAP 2007 under the theme Acquainted With the Night. Selected work will hang in the windows of Union Square businesses or be installed outdoors. This is a juried exhibit; Somerville Arts Council staff and board members will review proposals. We seek work that can capitalize on the unique spaces of Union Square and is bold and
innovative—art that will capture people’s attention while walking through Union Square and help convey the vibrant artistic energy of the area. Although we can’t guarantee certain windows or sites, we are very interested in site-specific installations and encourage artists to put forth suggestions for such works. (Please mention such specifications in your proposal.) Taking a lead from Robert Frost’s poem, Acquainted with the Night, we hope to explore the atmosphere and essence of night. Whether you choose to explore nocturnal subcultures, the unconscious state of dreams, or darkness itself, we look forward to your creative interpretations of this theme.
Selected artists will receive a $100 honorarium. We encourage new work
and site specific proposals; for large scale installations we may have
extra funding (see application directions below).
*Please note that artists are required to install and take down their
work and should be comfortable working with business owners.
