HONK FEST - September 30, 2006
Somerville Art Matters in September will preview the upcoming HONK fest this Monday night. We air every Monday night at 6:30 p.m. on Channel 3. This show runs throughout the month of September.
For the first time ever, honkers from around the country will unite for a weekend of camaraderie and rightious music in Davis Square on Saturday Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday Oct. 8, from 8 a.m. to noon. And what exactly is HONK?. Across the country and around the world, a new type of street band is emerging - HONK. These musicians are acoustic and mobile and borrow repertoire and inspiration from a diverse set of folk music traditions, including the New Orleans second line brass bands. These "honkers" share a commitment to honk their horns for the same reasons motorists do so: to arouse fellow travelers, to warn of danger, to celebrate milestones and to just have fun.
