SCULPTURE TOUR & ART EXHIBITION - August 13, 2006
Sunday, August 13 at 4 pm: Victorian and Contemporary Culture and Sculpture
Historic Forest Hills Cemetery 95 Forest Hills Avenue, Jamaica Plain
One block from Orange Line, Forest Hills stop. Free parking. Admission $8.
Info: www.foresthillstrust.org
Tour of memorial sculpture by well-known 19th century masters and accomplished, yet often anonymous, stone carvers of the Victorian era.
The tour takes place in conjunction with Dwelling, Forest Hills Cemetery's newest exhibition of contemporary art. Joining Elise, four Dwelling artists will reflect on how their work responds to the domestic qualities of Forest Hills and the cemetery's role as a tranquil refuge for lingering reflection: Jim Coates, whose Sunflower House is built from branches gathered in the woods and surrounded by a colorful living garden; Andrea Thompson, whose piece features a variety of elegant musical doorknockers; and Robert Gilmore and Sarah Walker, whose Living Room, open to the sky, has four walls of vines.
