CALL TO ARTISTS - Request for Qualifications
Medford, MA –Tufts University Tisch Library Meditative Rooftop Environment
Deadline: Wednesday, August 30, 2006, 5pm (application received)
Eligibility: Open to professional artists/designers/teams.
Project Summary: The Art Selection Committee of the Meditative Rooftop
Environment of the Tisch Library at Tufts University - [
http://www.tufts.edu ]www.tufts.edu - invites artists/designers/teams to
forward qualifications for a public art environment in a rooftop setting
with spectacular views of Boston to serve as a focal point for the campus.
The Meditative Rooftop Environment is an L-shaped plaza measuring
approximately 11,000 square feet. Currently, the site features three
3-foot high grass planters measuring 43’ x 53’, 20’ x 30’ and 46’ x 26’.
The concrete edges of these platforms also serve as seating elements. At
this point, it is undecided whether these elements will be removed or stay
in place. The final design may feature the following elements: landscape
design, structures that accommodate seating, lighting and sculptural
features that encourage quiet contemplation and reflection. The art
selection process will be facilitated by the UrbanArts Institute at
Massachusetts College of Art (UrbanArts).
Budget: $150,000 all-inclusive budget. Finalists will receive a $1,000
honorarium.
