Save the NEH: What You Can Do

Save NEH

You have likely learned that President Trump’s budget proposal for next year cuts or eliminates many important programs, including the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
The NEH costs each American citizen just $0.46 per year and those mere pennies produce vital cultural programming. Thanks to the NEH, our state enjoys historical tours, book talks, museum exhibitions, theater performances, films, and so much more. This critical funding—just 0.003% of the federal budget—dramatically improves civic life in Massachusetts.
We hope you will continue to follow the news of these proposed funding cuts. To help you get started, we offer details below.
What you need to know:
  • The National Endowment for the Humanities receives an annual appropriation to provide for research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.
  • Each citizen pays $0.46—less than a pack of gum—each year to fund the humanities.
  • Public humanities programming is available to all.
  • Washington has threatened to cut the NEH’s funding in the past with little success.
  • The NEH has longstanding bipartisan support in Congress.
  • Our state’s members of Congress strongly support the NEH.
How you can help today:
We recently traveled to Washington and met with legislators from Massachusetts. We will continue to advocate for humanities funding. Please join us by sharing your support for the humanities with people in your life.
Thank you,
David Tebaldi
Executive Director
